A Sweet Surprise in Paradise: Gender Reveal & Maternity in Hawaiʻi


Some sessions stay with you long after the last image is delivered—and this was one of them.


This couple traveled from California for a quick getaway to the island of Hawaiʻi, turning their time away into something truly unforgettable. What began as a beautiful maternity session unfolded into an even more meaningful experience: a gender reveal thoughtfully woven into the shoot itself. I had the honor of being part of the surprise, quietly capturing the anticipation, the emotion, and that once-in-a-lifetime moment when everything becomes real.


Set against the natural beauty of Hawaiʻi, the session began softly and intentionally. There was a calm, almost sacred energy in the air—the kind that comes from slowing down, being present, and celebrating new beginnings far from home. As we photographed, the reveal unfolded, met with pure joy, laughter, and heartfelt emotion. These are the moments I live to document: unfiltered, intimate, and deeply personal.


As the sun dipped lower toward the horizon, the session transitioned into a stunning maternity portrait experience. Golden light wrapped around us, the ocean reflecting soft pastel tones, and everything felt effortless. Hawaiʻi sunsets have a way of elevating every emotion—they slow time, add depth, and bring an undeniable sense of elegance to every frame.
